1) Stop Your Car. No matter how minor an accident may be the failure to stop can result in serious criminal consequences. If possible, stop your vehicle at the point nearest the accident scene without obstructing traffic more than necessary
2) Be Careful What You Say. Do not admit fault. Statements made during the excitement of an accident may be misconstrued or misquoted later. Allow the accident investigation reveal who is at fault. Discuss the accident only with the police officer and/or your attorney
3) Call the Police. Allow officers to investigate the scene of the accident. Write down the accident report number and request how and where you can obtain a copy
4) See Your Doctor. Serious injuries do not always result in immediate pain. Consult a doctor or hospital if there is the slighest chance you may be injured
5) Don't Trust Your Memory, Write It Down & Take Photographs. Write down the facts, include the names and addresses of witness, skid marks and distance measurements, the names license plate numbers, insurance information and driver's license numbers of the driver involved.
